Radio Messenger adds APRS OTA support
Aloha, Aprsotanauts! Radio Messenger 1.0.3 is live on the App Store with new features specific to APRS OTA. Radio Messenger is a beautiful iOS and iPadOS app for APRS messaging, written by Georges WH6AZ on Kauai. Its radio first but can transmit over the internet too, syncs your message history across your devices using iCloud, and it talks to Bluetooth TNCs, to audio adapters like the Digirig, and to portable modems like the Mobilinkd.
Here is what the release adds for APRS OTA:
- An interactive help card with the command syntax, so the commands are in the app instead of in your memory.
- Chaser attribution. The app looks up the name behind a callsign and prints it above the message, so a host can answer somebody by name.
- Tap a chase message to QSL it. The app pre-fills the command and the chaser’s callsign, and you send it.
- Tappable links, so the summary OTA sends you at the end of an op opens in a browser.
- Grid squares parsed out of chaser messages, which updates their location in the app.
- Tap the plus button to send a location beacon on demand, which is exactly what a chaser owes an op right after they send CHASE.
