WB2EHG on Discovering APRS OTA

Eric WB2EHG interviewed me for his journal, and posted his thoughts at Calling CQ with APRS: Discovering APRS On The Air.

He describes how he honed and improved his APRS messaging skills by using APRS OTA. Plenty of hams send position beacons and stop there. He describes what changed once he had somewhere to send a message and someone who would answer.

Two things in the piece worth highlighting:

• He reaches OTA two ways. Conventional APRS on 144.390, and DMR messaging through BrandMeister.
• His station pairs the aprs.fi Android app with a BridgeCom Maverick over a Bluetooth KISS TNC. The phone composes the message and the radio sends it.
